John,

If you're talking about strengthening the stringer that is by the mast =
step,
that sounds more than reasonable. The mast was pushing down through the
bottom of many of the boats (you could actually see a gap in the =
fiberglass
in the cabinet under the sink where the deck was being pushed down). =
There
wasn't enough support below the mast, and some boats have also had the
plywood rot out. I've heard home grown repairs with stainless steel
strengtheners (Dan Boyd's boat), to full boat yard repairs (many of the
boats have gone this route). I know it cost us almost double that many =
years
ago. All the repairs are to beef up the support system under the mast. =
Let
me know if you have any questions.

Kurt

Folks,

I recently had a problem with my boat (41K worth of a problem, but =
insured)
and now it seems as though I am being held up for a problem with the =
keel
bolts and the wood forward that supports the keel. I recall a discussion
about this in the past..can someone please email me their findings or =
what
they did to alleviate and replace the rot? Does $2,500 sound correct for
this repair?

=20

Thanks for this,
