The boat was still in the water at the mooring and I had the 50' rig
laying longitudinally on the 33' deck in preparation for hauling for the
winter. ...and during a freak wind storm the boat to windward blew
back into me and bent all the rod as it hung past the bow pulpit. =20
=20
The moral of the story is that a sail boat without the rig in place will
not ride at her mooring as it normally would in higher winds. Had my
rig been up, the boat would have blown back on the mooring chain in the
same proportion as the boat ahead thus not incurring any contact.=20

I strongly urge all Frers 33 owners to use Hall Spars, the original OEM,
for all rigging updates. This no plug for Hall, I did not enjoy working
with them, but they have records of all the rigs and rigging for all our
boats and the replacement parts will fit perfectly. I had to replace
100% of my standing rigging in 2004 as a result of storm damage and the
net cost wast less than $3000, once I got everything the final
installation was painless.

The holes ARE a different size and that will do it. =20

I am having new cold heads put on the rigging. The rigger here says
that the rod is good as long as it has no nicks in it and is inspecting
it as he goes. For anyone with their original rigging you may not need
new rod just new cold heading on the old rod as long as you don't have
any nicks in the rod. With the new cold heads and some new turnbuckles
(because they don't make the old ones anymore). The cost at West River
Rigging will be right near $1,400 which is supposed to be a good price.
I know that it's at least a fair price because I know the guy. Gee I
wonder what it would've cost for new rod.

Thanks,
Frank Albert

My memory, as weak as it is, is that the holes in the spreader tips (and
the shrouds) are of different sizes.
