I had the Suunto D-135K rebuilt by Ray Andrews 11 Baptist Street =
Mattapoisett, MA 02739. (508) 758-3001

I was referred to him by the company I'd used previously because Ray had =
a supply of Suunto parts. I was told Suunto no longer makes compasses =
and the parts were otherwise unavailable. Since that was over a year =
ago, he may not have the parts to help you. He did a great job and the =
compass is as good or better that the Danforth on my previous boat. The =
full rebuild was $400, of which $300 was parts, not inexpensive but much =
less than a compass that size would cost new. Ray also fixed the compass =
this winter when it developed a small bubble at no charge. He is =
sometimes a little slow to respond to calls and e-mails.

I would not want to go without a binnacle mounted compass for safety =
reasons, but we almost exclusively use a solar powered mast mounted =
Tacktick Racemaster compass while racing. It is the crews responsibility =
to track wind shifts on our boat. Our Tacktick is ten years old, but the =
newer models add a lot of functions, such as timer and wireless =
windspeed. I would definitely look into Tacktick if you need other =
instrumentation.
