Unfortunately I'm too far away to make the meeting but I think it's a great idea. At one time I put together a questionnaire to solicit input from members regarding the class championship but it wasn't circulated. I'm attaching a copy as it may cover some of the points you wish to discuss. We're a long way away so the chances of us making it down to a club championship with Equinox are quite remote however it would be good to get more of the class engaged. This year 2013 is the Marblehead to Halifax Ocean Race which starts the July 7 so it pretty much takes us out of the picture. If we had a half dozen Frers 33 in that race it would be great :-) . I have passed along my thoughts/comments and documentation earlier on the handicap issue. Hi Guys,
=0A=0A
Just wondering if interested in a like new Doyle Asymmetrical Spinnaker an= d ATN Sleeve (Douser). Great cruising sail and can be used in racing,= great for offshore racing or cruising. http://www.doylesails.com/cru= ising/downwind/apc/index.html Specifically built for the Frers 33 use= d maybe 5 times in total, no patches .75 oz ripstop.

Congratulations Frank.
Thanks for all your feedback over the years and you input in the =
development of the tuning guide. We'll miss your prompt =
feedback. I'm sure you'll enjoy the J 109 they are a great boat, =
quick and relatively easy to handle in the racing and cruising =
mode. If you decide to do Marblehead to Halifax so year let me =
know, there are a few 109s here in Halifax and there are also some =
interested in the Frers 33 so let me know when you decide on a price and =
I'll put the word out. I'd love to have a couple of more Frers 33 =
to race against.

Michael,
The former owner of my Frers also used a spartite plug for t=
he mast. When I got the boat the mast wasn't in it and I put the mast=
in and the spartite plug in with an aft rake. I didn't like the=
way the boat sailed like that which was most (almost all) of the spartite =
in front of the mast. Eventually I switched it around to al=
most all of the spartite in the rear of the mast with the mast nearly verti=
cal. It remained that way for all the time I owned the boat and we we=
re very fast.
Cheers,
Frank Albert

Mike, we have sailed Heartbeat and Black Hawk=
at 46' 1" in under 15 kts and had good results, this is a pin to pin measu=
rement, mast is 1" from the back of the partner and about 3/4" from furthis=
t aft setting. Every boat has it's slight differences. You need to find the=
right spot for your boat. --- On Tue, 1/22/13, Michael Argyelan = <michael@gosailingchicago.com> wrote:

Mike,
I'm not sure I saw the part about a pretty serious weather helm in 12 =
to 15 knots.
Obviously if you have the main sheeted in tight with the =
traveler up that's going to create a great deal of weather helm in those co=
nditions. I would usually go with my number 2, a 140% genoa, in 12 to=
15 knots. With that sail, and the main sail traveler down some along=
with the main as flat as you can get it (cunningham on fairly tight, backs=
tay at 3000 pounds and bottom of the sail as flat as possible), we can sail=
very fast and while not being overpowered or having too much weather helm.=

Hi Michael.
I put the tuning guide together with input from several very =
experienced Frers 33 owners and information from other sources and in =
this case Hall Spars. Since, when I got Equinox I had to get a new =
headstay I also got the 46 foot measurement from Hall =
Spars.
The Tuning Guide reads:
"3. Rig Tuning
a) Headstay Length
Prior to stepping the Mast: This length is measured from the center of =
the pins at the hounds and the stem fitting and should equal 46’ =
00”. Maximum headstay length needs to be reduced in heavier air as =
much as 1 – 2” by tightening the headstay thereby reducing =
rake and weather helm."
This is the original measurement and naturally adjustments are made on =
an individual boat basis and the area and type of conditions you sail =
in. As the others have said the balance within the boat will also =
depend on a number of other factors including, mast step location, =
mainsail draught location, traveller adjustment (height), backstay =
tension, sail choice, mainsail condition and wind/weather =
conditions.
