The=
center of foredeck is the best position, not only is it stronger and =
designed for the forgery it is the best location for end to end =
jibes. The foredeck person can let the pole hang from the =
topping lift and slide it from one side to the other. It also =
provides room to move the jib easily from one side to the other. =
Some boats have the block attachment forward almost to the stem =
and moving the jib is difficult. The padeye at the mast is handy =
to have a snapshackle to capture the topping lift when not in use. =
the forguy needs to be forward, the afterguy aft in order to =
lock the pole in place.

On Persistence we currently have downhaul block attached to padeye in =
center of foredeck. It has been suggested that we attach block to =
the padeye that is 2 inches forward of the mast. I note that the =
center of foredeck padeye has a larger base and 4 bolts where the other =
is just two bolts.
Has anyone tried this arrangement and/or is there any real reason not =
to do it? (angle, forces, etc).
