Personally re-fitting the topping lift was one of the very first rigging ch=
anges I did to the boat, and it is absolutely needed the way we sail. We =
also always race spinnaker and are now often flying a staysail as well, so =
I can=92t give up a much needed halyard to lift the pole.

Rig your port spin halyard so it exits the mast and comes back to the pit o=
n starboard, rig the starboard halyard opposite to port side (this is so yo=
u can have your mast guy and pit guy hoisting on the high side while the ki=
te is going up to leeward).

Rig the jib halyard to also come out and back to pit on starboard, since mo=
st mark roundings and hoists are on port, and this lets your pit person swi=
tch from spin up to jib down without moving.

Main halyard usually comes out and back to the pit on port side, that way y=
ou can have both jib and main sitting on the winch while upwind so they don=
=92t slip and easy additional tension during a tack if you need.

Martin, the upper sheaves are port and stbd halyards the lower one you woul=
d use for your r/f or topping lift. The the lower sheave could be used for =
the topping for the spin pole a lot of us have given up on the topping lift=
and use the centerline halyard as our topping lift, hope this helps. Bob
