The boom on Southern Cross (x-Risoluto) contains both an 8:1 outhaul and an i=
nternal fine tune. Both upgrades completed during my tenure as owner.
The 8:1 outhaul involved removing both ends of the boom, removing the origin=
al block and tackle and replacing with a new block assembly. The project wa=
s done twice, first as an exact replacement of the original equipment after w=
hich I learned that I still was unable to get enough power to adjust the out=
haul under heavy load and the blocks would hang up on one another. The seco=
nd try required full redesign and replacement to the current system which gi=
ves the crew enough power to move the outhaul under load.
The internal fine tune was a fantastic upgrade to the boat. I tried three d=
ifferent main sheet assemblies over nine years and was very happy with the c=
hange over to internal fine tune. This modification required significant wo=
rk by a professional rigger.
All work was done by Dave & Chuck at Sound Rigging Services, Inc. in Essex, C=
t.
Good luck,
Scott
