I installed a Ray Marine Wheel pilot of the Frers 33 and was happy with it.
If I was doing a lot of offshore stuff I would have installed a below deck
unit.
I replaced the rudder and rudder stock on my Frers 33. The unit was
fabricated my Competition Composites in Ontario

them the old one and they made a new better lighter rudder with a carbon
fibre rudder stock and new foam that can't soak up water. Installed new
bushings and it all worked perfectly.

Subject: [frers-list]Rudder replacement and auto pilot suggestions?
Q1 Has anyone gone so far as to build a new rudder or have suggestions on
who might build them or have a mold? Attempting to remove Silvergirls
rudder in order to replace the bushings, the post was so worn, ridged and
distorted that it could not be removed without grinding significant portions
of the post down. I think the best plan for me is to start anew.
Q2- I'd like to install an auto-pilot. I would like to stay in the Garmin
family, but have only heard of Raymarine EVO-200's being installed on the
Frers 33. Do any of you have suggestions for an auto pilot?
Thanks for any suggestions you may have.
Jay
