John, going off memory, it=92s 55=92 from the base of the mast to the top, =
aka just the rig itself. The Antennas and electronics would be on top of th=
at for the total air draft measurement. Assuming ~5ft between the top of th=
e mast and a bridge is needed for both safety and antenna clearance, you=92=
re at 60=92=85 Then you can subtract whatever depth below water the mast =
base sits at, which IIRC is less than a foot, giving you an effective ~59=
=92 Air Draft. If you=92re going to go under anything less than 60=92 you =
might want to send someone up the rig to eyeball it and go slow, but anythi=
ng higher than 60=92 you should be fine.

Subject: [frers-list]Air Draft
As I passed under the Sakonnet River Bridge which reports 65 feet of
vertical clearance I was contemplating the air draft which I do not know
precisely.
The I dimension is 45 feet. Using the diagram at sailboatdata.com I
estimated that the ratio of the length from the masthead to the water
line is 5/4.1. This yields a distance from the waterline to the masthead
of just under 55 feet (54.88 feet). To that I would need to add the 3.3
feet for the Garmin wind transducer to obtain 58.3 feet.
Is the 55 feet to the mast head plus antenna and wind instruments
similar to other owners' estimates?
Thanks.
John Aquino
