As the subject says, Southern Cross, the full sail inventory of roughly 20 =
sails, and it's full suite of B&G electronics now has a new owner, Chris Mo=
ore of Duck Island Yacht Club in CT.
I love the boat and didn't want to sell it, but this spring my wife and I h=
ad a beautiful baby girl, and so between the new baby and the challenge of =
competing and finding good crew to operate a symmetrical spin race boat in =
western long island sound where almost all the boats are asymmetrical it wa=
s time to pass the torch onto someone new.
With Southern Cross we competed in a lot of events such as Edgartown Around=
Martha's Vineyard race, Edlu & Stratford Shoals races, Stamford Denmark Ra=
ce, Around Long Island Regatta, and countless other small events and wed ni=
ght club races.
Southern Cross also took home plenty of trophies in the time I had her, wit=
h the most notable being an Around Long Island Doublehanded 1st followed by=
a 2nd the following year, and a season 3rd overall finish for the 2022 YRA=
LIS du Moulin Cup Double Handed Distance Racing award. I also cruised the =
boat from Nantucket to New Jersey and all points in-between averaging aroun=
d 1500nm per year on the boat.
The Frers 33 remains a very solid platform to compete and sail all these ye=
ars later. I'm very sad to let her go, but happy it hopefully get a chance=
to do some one design racing, and to someone that I hope is able to take a=
s good care of the boat as I did.
