Dear Managers et al,
Following this email are instructions on how to navigate the MaxLite
Lighting & Technology University website which I am happy to say was
launched in its fullness over the weekend.
As you know the MaxLite product training modules as well as other internet
lighting resources have been up and running since Lightfair this past May.
As of Saturday night the "Lighting Lessons" have be launched. I hope you can
take the time to review the site particularly the new Lighting Lessons
portion. I hope to meet with each manager to determine which portions of
MLTU should be required materials for each position under your management.
I hope to have established before this month's end a required curriculum for
each job function/employee with your guidance. I will send meeting requests
to each Manager for the week of 7/16/12.
Please know that MLTU is not "finished" per say. It is a living site that
will be constantly updated and revised. We are working now on a series of
lessons/Q&A specifically on LED technology that I am sure you will find
beneficial.
Any advice, critics, suggestions or comments please let us know. Lastly,
Blake is currently working on a very detailed guide for getting the most
from the Lighting Lessons and will publish it soon to the MaxLite Market.
Thank you,
Greg
The link to MaxLite Lighting & Technology University (MLTU) is:
<http://university.maxlite.com> http://university.maxlite.com
The university is made up of 3 main sections.
1.) Product Training Modules:
Accessing this section will allow you to view presentations on any of
MaxLite's products. The modules are separated into product family categories
so that you can find the information you need quickly. This information is
updated constantly so you'll always have access to the latest information on
products, features, specifications, applications, competition, and much
more. Please note that any word that appears in blue within these modules
can be clicked on for an explanation of the term. (This feature uses the
"Common Lighting Terms & Definitions" index also accessible in the menu of
the MLTU website.)
2.) Earn Your Lighting Degree:
This section is where the training course you will be taking is located.
To access it you can visit: <http://university.maxlite.com>
http://university.maxlite.com and click the "Earn Your Lighting Degree" icon
located in the center at the bottom of the website.
Clicking the icon will bring you to the login page for our online class
system. Once you login with the username and password you setup with me this
morning, you will see the course "Lighting Fundamentals - Lighting 101"
listed which deals with basic lighting concepts.
The "Lighting Fundamentals - Lighting 101" course contains 8 lessons, each
one with a quiz at the end requiring a 75% grade to move on to the next
lesson. You can take a quiz as many times as you like and your best score
will always be the one our system retains.
Once you begin, you'll find that each of the 8 lessons is made up of a
series of units. Think of a unit as being just 1 slide in a multi-slide
PowerPoint presentation. Each unit usually consists of a diagram/photo along
with a few paragraphs of text. When you are done reviewing a unit, you must
click the "Set the unit as completed" button located at the bottom of the
unit before advancing to the next unit.
Completing the "Lighting Fundamentals - Lighting 101" course is required as
part of your training. Going through the 8 lessons that make up this course
should take somewhere around 1 week to complete and can be done at your own
pace.
3.) Resources Other Lighting & Technology:
This last section of MLTU contains a list of useful links that provide
further information relating to various aspects of the industry. Of special
note is the MaxLite Webinars section which currently contains 19
(30-40 min) webinar videos which have covered a very wide range of topics
since we started them in 2010.
Good luck with the course and PLEASE do not hesitate to contact me if you
experience any difficulties with any aspect of the MaxLite University.
Additionally, if you have any comments or suggestions during or after you
complete the course I would love to hear them!
Thank you

Sincerely,
Blake Adams
