Hi Jerold,

I appologize big time if I gave the wrong impression!
My comments weren't about social climbing, nor meant to be a put down of
anyone-or DAR...I simply meant that when DAR was just starting out, the
requirements weren't as strict as they are now, and a lot of wrong data got
into those early records - and caution needs to be used when using them- as
there are still some of the 'mind set' that if "DAR says so, we must not
question DAR!"

Ummmm....yes, I'm familiar with your Aunt Bess' line...but it goes back to
Thomas Shelby (wife Hannah), son of Rees and Mary Shelby, not the King's
Mountain Shelby's :-)

Glad to hear from you Jerold, and thanks for sharing

Judy

No frustration is greater than seeking that which may no longer be there.

I noticed your exchanged with Mary Lou Smith concerning validation of
certain Shelbys with the DAR. Not being much of a social climber I have
little knowledge of the DAR or their requirements for a proper
"pedigree" but I can offer the following:
My aunt Bess Shelby Cage [sister of Thomas Virgil Shelby and daughter of
William Shelby both of Erath County Texas] was a member of good standing
in the DAR prior to her death in approx.1964. Our family is traced back
through Evan Shelby to Phillip Selby of Wales. I assume that Aunt Bess
was accepted based on her linage to one of the Revolutionary heros of
King's Mountain.
