My William Day was born on 4/24/1841 in Cross, Somersetshire, England to
John Day (b. abt. 1809 in Wedmore ) and Elizabeth West (b. 8/5/1807 in
Bath). William married the former Martha Willis who was born on 11/24/1841
in Wedmore to Samuel Willis (b.abt. 8/1809 a butcher) and the former Ruth
Raines (b. 2/14/1812 in Wookey). They were married on 4/4/1864 in Wedmore.
They moved their family to Cayuga County, New York, USA in 1866. There is
some contention that my Great Grandfather, William Willis Day was either
born in NY or in Axbridge, England just prior to their departure. The Day's
were married for over 50 years. William died in 1917 a year after his wife
Martha/ They are buried in the Day family section of Mt. Pleaseant Cemetery
in Port Byron, Cayuga County, NY.
