Hi All,
Just a quick note to say thanks for some very fast replies to my first posting.

For Mel Lader, the only Davis connection found so far was that Albert MILLARD married Mary Ann DAVIS in June 1866. Mary Ann's mother was Maria MORRIS, believed to have married Isaac Davis, a thatcher by trade. They had two other children, Sarah and Giles. Sarah almost certainly went on to marry George THAYER, who became the "uncle" referred to in my first posting. So Mel, if this ties in with anything in your line we need to have a chat.

Regards,
Tom Peck.

Abel Millard and his wife Mary were residents of Spafford, Onondaga Co., NY, where my ancestors also lived. The Millards in the area were mostly from Wedmore, and I suspect Abel was from there as well. Somewhere in my records, I also have Abel and Mary's immigration date if anyone should need it. Just let me know. In affectionate Remembrance of ABEL MILLARD who died October 20, 1885, aged 40 years. Dear Abel is gone; bow sad and lonely, Though on angel's wings he fled, And evening's zephyrs sighing, Sadly whisper, Abel is dead. I was at the Somerset Record Office yesterday looking at the records of what is catalogued as the records of a "?Friendly Society". The names listed are all female and detail the loan of a bag, numbered 1, 2 or 3, which was loaned to the named woman for on average about a month, and then returned. Dates of loan and return are listed, as is the condition the bag was returned in - clean, not clean, etc. There is also a record of monies paid, usually around 2s.The catalogue entry says it is "also used as account book of a maternity club with articles lent for lying-in" - presumably this is the bag referred to.
