I have in fact a number of relations, all from Wedmore ancestors, in =
Australia.
In 2002 I stayed with a first cousin, Tim Curtin, Canberra for 4 weeks =
and we're hoping to come out again, perhaps 2006.
Tim and I are descended from so many Wedmorians that anyone who was in =
Wedmore for 2/3 generations prior to perhaps 1850 seems to be related to =
us somehow. A month ago my fiance and I stayed in Wedmore and reckoned =
I'm related somehow to over half those who have gravestones still =
visable.
Have you any idea where your Uria and William came from? They should =
appear in the 1851 census somewhere and the 1851 Somerset Census is =
available on a CD and the details can be found on the Wedmore site I =
gave you.

How lovely that you have found so many relatives with a Wedmore =
background. I hope you enjoyed your stay in Canberra. My late husband =
and I were married in Canberra and lived there off and on for many =
years. We were, in a way, pioneers of our federal capital and saw it =
develop over a long period of time. At one time we had been in South =
Australia for a few years and, when we returned to Canberra, found the =
huge lakes just beginning to fill with water.
I have very little information on Uriah Williams prior to his arrival in =
Tasmania in 1842. I have been given his birth date - 29 November 1809 - =
but I have been told that he was born in Bristol and that these birth =
records are not available for some strange reason. Others say that he =
was born in Wedmore but I have no way of knowing which is correct. It =
is so frustrating. I would so much like to know who his parents were. =
I have searched the Wedmore baptisms but to no avail. I have seen part =
of a letter written to him after his arrival in Tasmania, complete with =
wife Elizabeth Beach and three children, which supposedly came from his =
mother in Butleigh (near Wedmore I think) so perhaps he was born there. =
Unfortunately the last page of the letter is missing.
When I first discovered his marriage in Wedmore I went looking for for =
this village in so many appropriate books on England but, not once did I =
find it!. However, I have since read about it; seen lovely pictures of =
it; and have delighted in Michael Tutton's wonderful site. I should =
like to visit Wedmore very much but I think it would take a minor =
miracle for me to do so. Perhaps you can understand why I was so =
delighted with your extra bit of information about his marriage.
I expect that both you and your fiance will be married by the time of =
your projected visit in 2006. I feel sure you will both enjoy your trip =
to our shores again.
Since you are related to so many Wedmore inhabitants perhaps we may have =

this John Duckett (1782-1864) although I am not at all certain there are =

Hi everyone,
My first posting, so please advise me of any mistakes in protocol.
My g/grandfather was Albert MILLARD 1845-1893 who emigrated to USA with his wife Mary Ann (nee DAVIS) around 1873/4. He left behind his eldest son William, who is my grandfather, with George THAYER, his "uncle" and his wife Sarah.
Albert and Mary took their other three children Minnie (aka Maria?), Anna and Henry, arriving in Spafford then Skaneateles, Onondaga county, New York state. Later children Maude and Frank arrived (possibly with two more as yet unidentified).
The family line expanded into SMITH, CHAPMAN, HORSINGTON, JAMESON, CASELEY and BURNETT- or similar sounding name. I have found that my BURNETT is a previous owner of "The Creamery", which now houses the Skaneateles Historical Society I believe some of these USA surnames may also connect back to the Wedmore area as Skaneateles is proving to be a "mini-Somerset" of its day.
Albert had Mary Ann, Dorcas, Ellen, Elizabeth and, (as yet unproven, Mark), for brothers and sisters. His father was William and mother was Hannah AMESBURY.
Other web sites have given good information about Albert's ancestors, so my interest is with William and Hannah's descendents. I would welcome any comments about any relatives however and would obviously be prepared to share more information that I have.

I'm afraid I can't help much with your direct request for information on
William and Hannah's descendants, but if you would like to exchange any
information on the Davis line, please let me know. I am descended from the
same family, who married into my Phippen line. Paul and Eliza (nee Phippen)
Lader/Larder arrived in Onondaga County in the mid 1850s. Skaneateles, NY,
is my home town and many of the names you mention in your message are very
familiar to me. You are quite right in saying that there was a very large
Somerset/Wedmore presence in this relatively small upstate New York town.
Spafford is only a few miiles up the lake from Skaneateles, and many of my
ancestors settled there as well. It would be great to hear from you.

Lovell/Pople are also from Somerset/Wedmore who came to Onondaga County and
some in Auburn, Cayuga County, NY
could someone who is more up on genealogy help me see what my problem is
1. I am looking for William Lovell born March 1846
2 he married Jane Mellish (b 1840 d 1880) on March 30, 1864 he was 24 she
was 23
3 could this be the same William Lovell???
he came to Onondaga after Jane passed away 1881 as he was in the 1881 Wedmore
census
Rumor has it he came to America with at least 2 brothers and a grandfather
(Charles, James,)
in abt 1884 William Married Ida Kellicutt in Camillus, NY
any advice will be most welcome

You probably know this but Albert Millard was baptised at St. Mary's, =
Wedmore, 11th January 1846 to Hannah and William Millard, a labourer of =
Mudgeley. (page 184, record 1469).
I have many Millards in my tree from Wedmore, but at the moment cannot =
locate these in my family!
