Don

I had the misfortune to have to remove my keel a couple of years ago.
The keel has a fiberglass "clamshell" fully encasing a lead alloy fin
shaped plug. The void between the clamshell and the plug is filled, for
the most part, with a putty. The foil shape is entirely in the shape of
the clamshell.

Subject: [frers-list]Keel Fairing, Keel Templates

Dear Frers 33 Members,

For some unexplainable reason, several small sections of the starboard
side of the keel lost some of its fairing and therefore needs to be
stripped and refaired.

Perhaps a year ago, there was discussions regarding keel templates and a
that a set of templates existed or had been made.

Question:

Is their a set of template drawings for the keel that can be converted
into a set of templates and is it possible to get a copy.

Also, I plan to use WEST System Epoxy with a low density filler. Does
anyone feel there is another or better alternative they would recommend.

The Frers design specifications sheet indicated that the keels were
faired with vinylester resin and biaxial glass. I assume the biaxial
glass they are referring to was just for the trailing edge, since my
keel is certainly not fully encapsulated in glass. Is that a correct
assumption or were some keels fully glassed when the were faired?

Thanks

Don Horton
