A good point to be made here perhaps. Out of Reach is from the Dead =
Sea, I mean Long Island Sound, light wind terratory. Eclipse is from a =
much windier region, hence higher righ tensions I would guess.

Rod, =20
Rig measurements: Louis Nees, previous owner of Out of Reach gave me =
this rig info in Feb '07 including those of Eclipse, a very well sailed =
boat out of Boston at the time. I haven't measured Out of Reach myself, =
nor are my rig tensions currently the same as I don't have the proper =
Loos gage. =20
Out of Reach Eclipse
Forestay 45' 11" 45' 9"
Backstay 47' 8" 48' 0.5"

Outer 58 lbs 65 lbs
Intermediate 20 16
Lower 20 27

Bilge pumps: Out of Reach has the same problematic Guzzler cockpit =
manual pump with it's lengthy hose and discharge aft. The bilge pump is =
a Jabsco mounted under the head vanity which discharges at just below =
the gunwale in the head compartment. There is a strainer in the input =
hose, but no level switch is used. The pump is operated by a circuit =
breaker in the nav station panel. There is a small Rule pump with float =
switch in the sump under the engine that discharges starboard aft just =
below gunwale. It is controlled by a 3-way switch (On-Off-Auto) mounted =
just above the door under the galley sink. It doesn't work well, as it =
back flows what's left in the hose, and I never run it in Auto.

Subject: [frers-list]Bilge Pumps and Tuning Guides
Hi Fellow Frers 33 Sailors;
Hope you all had a great season. We've had the Tuning Guide posted =
for a few months now. I have a few minor changes to finalize it (rig =
measurements) so if anyone has any additional suggestions please let me =
know.
The second item I have relates to some problem areas relating to bilge =
pump location and operation.
1.. The manual bilge pump is located on the port side of the cockpit =
just aft of the wheel and discharges overboard near the waterline. =
Convenient location but a long haul for the water to get overboard. I =
seem to be loosing suction. Difficult area to get to. Has anyone =
experienced this problem and if so how did you rectify it?=20
2.. Electric bilge pump located under the port settee with the =
discharge port side aft just above the manual bilge pump near the =
gunwhale. There is a float switch in the bilge and a strainer in the =
hose before it enters the pump. Either the pump is too small, not =
working properly or the discharge hose is too long. The result is that =
even if the bilge is full it takes forever to empty it using the =
electric bilge pump. Wondering if everyone has the same arrangement of =
if some have moved the bilge pump discharge location closer to the pump.
Thanks in advance for your replies.
