I installed something similar to Dan's set up when I purchased Relentless (=
41621).=A0 I didn't add the macerater (probably should have) but I did put =
in a Y valve.=A0 Everything initially goes into the holding tank and then c=
an either be discharged overboard or vacuumed out at a pump out station.=A0=
That set up meets the legal requirements although it kind of looks like a =
mini-Chernobyl with all of the hoses running through there.=A0=20
=A0
A couple of issues to keep in mind.=A0 First, the tanks are generally a tig=
ht fit in there with one corner right up against the hull.=A0 I strapped mi=
ne to the center line and that holds it well but the top right hand corner =
was still pressed against the hull to avoid a stress crack I slid a piece o=
f plywood under that corner to distribute the load.=A0 Second, a good plast=
ic tank (non-reactive,someone once mentioned installing a stainless steel t=
ank which would be eaten away by the waste eventually flooding the boat wit=
h that stuff.)=A0designed as a holding tank is imperative.=A0 You want some=
thing where orders will not permeate the tank.=A0If you purchase one of tho=
se flexible bag holding tanks you can expect your entire boat to eventually=
smell like a holding tank.=A0 Those bags simply cannot stop odors from per=
meating through the bag into the boat.=A0 =A0Lastly, good hoses.=A0 This is=
the expensive part but worth EVERY PENNY of the cost.=A0 The Series 250
ShieldsFlex II Marine Water/Exhaust Hose with Wire=A0is a costly, but good=
, choice and provides excellent odor stopping power.
=A0
I installed all of the above and have used them extensively for the last 5 =
years.=A0 The boat smells pretty good, for a boat.=A0 What it does not smel=
l like is a holding tank.
=A0
Good luck.

We put in a rigid plastic tank (12 gal) when we bought WT. =A0It fit fairly=
neatly under the port side of the v-berth. =A0I did put a macerator pump i=
n and a diverter valve (to enable us to bypass the tank). =A0The vent is cl=
ose to the bow on the port side (in the small area that has the triangle pl=
ywood access panel) and the pump out is on the bow - starboard side.=20
Overall the system works well. =A0If you want to take a look, let me know.=

I have been dragging my feet on this due to indecision, so I need some advi=
ce on installing a holding tank in Vapor Trail. =A0=20
=A0=20
May I ask for some input on holding tank locations, bags vs Todd tank, hose=
runs, vents, macerators, etc. =A0I have all kinds of ideas but I would lik=
e to hear what works well, and perhaps more important what does not. =A0=20
