Courtney,
I just Igot done working on my rudder. The rudder shaft was suffering
form electrolysis and water got into the rudder and it started to de
laminate. I exposed the damage on the rudder shaft and had it welded.
Then I cut the de laminated area out and found black slime that used to
be foam. then I ground all the bad foam out. Any cracks I found in the
foam I opened up and filled with west system. Then I filled the voids
with 16 oz urithan foam from US Composites. Then roughed out the
shape using templets I made from the other side of the rudder. After
that I vacumbaged the glass and west system to seal it up. Then i did a
final fairing witch was not as good as I hoped for.

To get the rudder out take the steering quadrant off the shaft. Then
lift up on the rudder and pull the bolt that holds it in place. Make
shore you have enough clearance to get the rudder out you may have to
tip the boat up to clear the shaft or park it over a ditch. Be very
careful if you are tipping the boat on jack stands.

I Will email you later.
