Courtney,

My boat (#55) was shipped with a wheel, but converted at some point to a
tiller. I converted back to a wheel, but instead used an Edson CDi
system, with no cables, etc. Can't help you with pictures there. I may
still have some p[arts around although I sold the pedestal assembly. I
think I may still have a one year old radial (mounts on the rudder post)
if you need parts. If you decide instead to switch to a CDi system, I
have a spare tiller arm that Edson made a small (correctbale) mistake
on.

Not knowing the condition of everything, if the rudder bearings
(actually Teflon sleeve bearings or bushings) are missing or badly worn
check out the two articles in the FAQ pages of the web site.

I have never seen the inside of the rudder so can't speak to the
construction. Mine was 117 poundes when I removed it so if yours is
lighter let me know, mine might be wet! If there are cracks in the top,
my opinion (not a professional here) is to open the cracks a little
(perhaps a Dremel tool with a small, ball shaped grinder tip) and with
the rudder standing vertially, work epoxy into the cracks. I would
rough sand the entire rudder top and spread epxoy across the entire top
so you don't end up with little plugs cracking out. Perhaps others have
better ideas.

There is a good article here about rebuilding a rudder.
http://www.westsystem.com/ss/rebuilding-a-rudder/ I assume the Freres
33 rudder is of similar construction.
