We had about 1/4 inch play in wheel on Persistence as well. Turned out it =
was because there was play at the key. I used a piece of pastic as a shim =
and problem has been gone for the past two seasons

I have the same Edson rack-and-pinion steering with the same slap. Not rel=
ated to the rudder itself - just cleaned that up again last spring.

There is an adjustment in the steering gear, but I was told it was complica=
ted, so Edson suggested sending it to them. I have not been in the mood to=
pull that out and ship the whole pedestal, so it continues to bang around.=
If you figure out a better answer, let me know.

Hi Rod!=20

Nice to hear from you!

It's on the hard in Montreal, & I had the cradle put up on blocks at haulou=
t to be sure I could get the rudder out.

Workin in Texas until end of March, but would have to wait for the weather =
to break up there before dropping it anyway.

Just tryin to get a head start on parts & understanding the process beforeh=
and.

The pedestal has Edson on it. When I looked at the gears and bearings last =
year, there was no visible wear.

Enjoy NZ! Summer down there!

Best,

recommend dropping the rudder and have a look.
