Hi Frank
On Persistence there is a large pad eye in the middle of the foredeck appro=
x. 1/2 way between stem and mast. That is where the downhaul has always be=
en run. We changed Persistence from the double sided downhaul arrangement =
and have a fairlead at the aft bottom end of sloping foredeck just ahead of=
and beside the hatch and another at the top of the sloping section just af=
t and to stbd of hatch. From there runs thru organizer and to a stbd side =
clutch beside the pole up. Our pit person controls both. We did this beca=
use our crew was also raving on a C&C 115 and sometimes a C&C99 that was ri=
gged this way.
One benefit of getting rid of the double ended downhaul is that it freed th=
e cam cleats on either side of the coachroof which we now use for our genoa=
traveler car adjustments. This allows Genoa trimmers to look forward at s=
ail as they adjust the cars. Formerly the ends came out aft of primaries t=
o a cheekblock on the coaming and I really did not like that arrangement
Our pole is end for end and the trigger is a single line that connects trig=
ger on both ends. This usually works very well but can sometimes have the =
new guy inadvertently pop out of the jaws during a gybe.

Subject: [frers-list]Foredeck rigging for racing
Last year we bought Whirlaway from Don and Chris and this year I have been =
slowly trying to get it back in racing configuration. I have read the rigg=
ing document and was wondering what has worked best for the fore guy. On W=
hirlaway the block is still mounted far forward close to the bow chocks. I=
can see it needs to move mid for deck, but have people found a need to use=
a block or is just a pulley good enough? Also any suggestions on running b=
ack to the pit area? A final question, for rigging the spin pole for end f=
or end; one end has a remote release, the other does not, I was planning to=
tie a line to the pull so it would be a remote pull for both ends. Is thi=
s what others have done or was the pole re-worked?
Thanks,
Frank
