I'm not sure where the 3,000 number came from, but possibly Mark Dixon, wh=
o is no longer an owner. Bill Thompson has his old boat so might be able to=
comment on the max number he sees. The gauge on my adjuster has never work=
ed. My general rule would be stop when the boat starts to bend.

Backstay Tension
The tuning guide shows 3,000 bunds of backstay tension for higher wind spee=
ds.
We are learning the ropes with a new backstay. We can currently add up to 2=
,000 pounds of tension before we run out of backstay adjuster. We can amend=
this by tightening the lashing further, but 2,000 pounds is something of a=
n effort even with the Sailtec device.
Are others in the fleet routinely using 3,000 pounds?
Shroud Tension
I find that the leward shrouds are go slack upwind in 10-12 knots of wind. =
Is this typical?
Upwind Tracking
With a little thought about the sail trim and the backstay, the boat sails =
upwind with almost no helm effort. It=E2=80=99s great!
We were sailing upwind head to head with a J/120 and he really was not maki=
ng better time. I guess he was doing more things wrong than we were._______=
