Letter from Richard C SHELBY (then Representative of AL-1978, now Senator 
1998), to Mrs Hoberta Frost, 13 Nov 1978.-

He stated that "John Rufus was his gr gr grandfather and was born in 
Mecklenburg Co, NC, which is where the city of Charlotte is located. John R 
migrated to Dallas Co, AL near Selma. At the time he settled in Dallas Co, 
that portion of Dallas Co was in what is now Perry Co, but the boundaries 
were rearranged sometime after the Civil War. He and his wife are both 
buried at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church north of Selma, AL."

[my note-J.A.T.---A study of the county boundry lines, show that Selma, 
Dallas Co, was not a part of Perry Co, except in 1810, when all of Alabama 
was Indian land.
Alabama became a territory in 1817 and a state in 1819 and by the 1820 
census Perry and Dallas were two separate counties- their boundries did 
change a bit over the coming years, but did not include the area that is 
around Selma.]

I've been to Christ Church in Phila..that is how I found the bapt for 
Mary..it was under the name SELBY. Its a pretty church, with a long 
history, and is in the old part of Phila. Do let us know what they send 
you. At the time (1985) the originals were not available to the public. The 
records at that time were located in the rectory, next to the church-they 
also had a nice little gift shop.
