Hi Mary,
Welcome to the Shelby list! I am putting together a response to your
questions and will [also] place it on the Shelby GenForum. Thank you so
much for sharing your data!

Here is a repeat of what I posted:

That is a terrific bit of data RE Rev War Record, for Isabel!! That one
sure got by me.

Isabel was Moses' only wife, and as Martha stated Moses mentions his
daughter Mary Wylie in his will. Early researchers had a tendency to think
everyone with the same name was the same person.
One researcher went so far as to say "Moses names his 6 youngest children
in his will, therefore this is proof he was married twice"...sheesh....

Nothing has come to light on Isabel's maiden name. The Rhedd or [sometimes
Hed] came from the early [1920s] ALEXANDER researchers, and even then they
were guessing..
Nor has anything documented come to life on Isabel being an Alexander-just
educated guessing on Johnnie's part, as this family had so many Alexander
connections.

One thing I do know - Isabel remarried to a James Craton/Creaton, who was
the guardian to several of her children.

I'll have to get back to you this one-gotta dig out the records..

What I forgot to add - THE PETTAWAY Papers, located in the public library
in Charlotte, NC, while pretty outdated and with errors, on the Shelbys,
covers a lot on the Alexander's, and where I first came across mention that
Isabel might have been a Hed- but they only had it as guess work..

Judy

But it seems like you may have researched Moses Shelby and his wife
Isabel, whose daughter was Mary Shelby Wylie (Wiley). I too have been
looking for &quot;additional proofs&quot; of Moses Rev War service (for
DAR supplement). Now DAR has approved Moses using a Grand Jury evidence
of civic service that I sent in. I also sent in evidence that Moses
Shelby was paid by Rev War ledger (microfilm in NC Archives) for wagon
&amp; team. And next to that entry was ISABEL SHELBY being paid for pork
and flour. I would like to send in a supplemental application on Isabel
S. Does anyone know her maiden name? Does anyone know the date and place
of marriage to Moses S?.And a document that would prove Mary Shelby Wiley
was daughter of Isabel S. On the marr date &amp; place, I've read
&quot;abt 1745&quot; and &quot;at Hagerstown, MD&quot;. I've also been
told about &quot;Isabel's will&quot;. I only have the will of Moses
Shelby and Isabel Shelby made before Moses died. What about some possible
proof/evidence that her maiden name was &quot;Rhedd&quot; (I've seen
other spellings too). <br>
